Hey Mom, have questions about Homeschooling? Here’s what other moms had to say.

Do you have pets? Do they help or hinder in homeschooling?

Joy

Yes, we have cats that keep the mouse population down and give our 9 yr old a valuable outside chore since he's not on a steady rotation milking cows/ feeding calves on our dairy farm. He and our 11. yr old daughter are sharing the duties of nursing a calf that had pneumonia back to health as well. Having pets is a great way for children to learn about the cycle of life in a way that also teaches responsibility and helps them to cherish life even if that life feeds us. So to answer the question...IMHO having pets helps in homeschooling, along with household/outside chores, by teaching responsibility. 🙂

2 cats and 1 rabbit. We've fostered a couple of dogs. We have two teens and a tween. I feel they've always helped; they are non-judgmental and accepting and they are always a source of interest and happiness. Caring for them adds to our lives!

Yes! I have an almost 2 year old beagle named Rosie, and 2 turtles in my fish tank. I feel like they don’t help nor hurt my homeschooling. They are just there! Rosie just sleeps all day and the turtles just swim in the tank all day. Love my pets!
